About Me
Low Carb Vacations is the online weblog for a private collection of vacation and travel resources. A wealth of travel and first-hand destination knowledge accumulated over 30 years (and still counting!) of working on the front lines and then in management within the Travel & Tourism Industry. Hotelier, travel agent, tour conductor, golf tour operator and now semi-retired, but still with a passion for travel and a mission: to grow this site into a monster vacation resource. Best advice I ever got was to make it the best site it can be and the rest will follow. It's already become a trusted and unbiased source of the best vacation resources and information on the web. Too ambitious for a retired guy, you say? Well, you can only play so much golf, fish until slimed out and RV, and this is what I love to do.
In order to accomplish our goal of being considered a player in the vacation and travel markets we must continuously seek out the best vacation providers, those hotels, resorts, cruises, all-inclusives and others offering packages where their value to the traveler is pretty obvious. Basically, putting all our vacations eggs in one basket.
I do not want to clutter up the site with a lot of advertising so the ads we accept will be relatively few but useful. I have to make some money for my trouble so the wife doesn't give me grief about secreting myself in the computer room. Hey, this is a 24/7 operation! Hopefully the ads I do offer will be visited by grateful vacation surfers. You will have to place some trust in my judgment of who is real out there based on my experience as a criss-crossing, globe-trotter of much, but little known repute! I base my decisions on accepting or rejecting a travel resource after talking to real people about real destinations, and that gut feeling you develop after having been in any business for many years.
I have to tell you I have been impressed with the vacation and travel related resources I have discovered on Twitter. As a networking tool for small businesses it is just amazing and it seems to be on pace to become the next killer app. I speak (tweet) with many hotels and resorts, almost daily, talking to owners and staffs, about what sets them apart from other destinations. What is their particular lure? Is it the scenery, location, remoteness, historical value, just what is it that makes their property unique and attractive to vacationers. How often do you get to compare notes with industry associates on the owner level? They recognize the value of participating with social media sites like Twitter as a way of gaining recognition for their destination. Viral marketing they call it now. It works!
Oh, and the LowCarb bit? I can explain that. I'm always on a diet and have found that the low-carb method is the best way for me to eat great and still lose weight. Having said that, I try to watch the fat and portions too. I am not concerned with calories and I do try to get away from the computer so that at least my dog gets his exercise. I enjoy mixing things up, no one single diet plan will do it all. Bottom line is I can't live without fruits and vegetables, nor can I give up meat, so, mostly when I am forced to feed myself, I try to follow the broad-beamed, ex-travel agent diet, using my very own weight loss plan, incorporating the three P's of diet and nutrition; Portion control, Processed-free foods and Pretty much everything else!
